We encountered many of these issues during the development of a custom CRM using Airtable and Make (formerly Integromat). Although the initial setup was rapid, handling complex data workflows and ensuring scalability required numerous workarounds.

This is How We’ve Fixed an Issue 

Step 1: Define Clear Requirements Upfront 

Before choosing a platform, we identified key needs: user roles, real-time syncing, external API support, and mobile access. Defining these requirements early helped us avoid technical debt and ensured we selected tools aligned with long-term goals. It also allowed better collaboration between stakeholders, as everyone had a shared understanding of what the final application needed to deliver.

Step 2: Select the Right Tools 

  • Airtable for backend/database 
  • Glide for frontend UI 
  • Make for automations (e.g., Slack alerts, Gmail integration) 

Step 3: Structured Our Data Properly 

We normalized the Airtable base early on to avoid performance bottlenecks as data volume grew, something any experienced web development company should prioritize when scaling apps.

Step 4: Use Conditional Logic 

Glide’s built-in logic handled dynamic user views and actions. Where Glide fell short, Make handled background tasks. 

Step 5: Tested for Scale 

We load-tested the system with large sample datasets and optimized Airtable’s filtering and relational links to ensure the platform could scale reliably.
